When it comes to engagement photos, there’s something so special about finding a location that truly reflects the essence of your relationship. Whether you’re a nature lover, a city explorer, or someone who thrives in intimate, cozy settings, Vancouver and its surrounding areas offer the perfect spots to capture your love story. As a Vancouver wedding photographer, I believe the right location sets the mood and vibe for your session, making it feel as authentic as possible. Let’s dive into some of my favorite engagement photo locations, each offering something unique!
Pitt Lake is hands down one of my favorite places to shoot. There’s something so tranquil and timeless about it. If you’re into nature and want breathtaking backdrops of mist-covered waters and mountain views, this is your spot. The soft light in the morning creates an ethereal vibe that makes every photo feel like it’s straight out of a fairytale. I love shooting here during the fall when the foliage turns rich shades of orange and brown. A great tip? Get there early to capture the mist and soft sunrise lighting—it’s totally worth the early wake-up call!

I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting to love The Vancouver Public Library as much as I do—but wow! The architecture here is just stunning. The grand, circular design creates such an elegant yet modern backdrop, and I can’t get enough of it. There’s something so classy about using the sharp lines of the building paired with the natural light streaming through the windows. This spot is perfect for couples who want a blend of urban style and a touch of sophistication. Trust me, this location looks amazing year-round, but spring and fall bring out the softest light and most beautiful shadows.

Okay, let’s talk about Blackie Spit in South Surrey for a second. This spot is like my secret weapon for golden hour photos. If you love the idea of a beachy, laid-back vibe with breathtaking views of the water and mountains, this is where you need to be. I’ve done countless engagement sessions here, and every single time, I am blown away by how dreamy the sunset shots are. It’s especially beautiful in the summer and fall, so be sure to time your session around sunset for the best light!

Coal Harbour is a Vancouver classic. For those who want the best of both worlds—water views with the city skyline and mountains—this is the place to be. Whether you’re gazing out at the water with the North Shore Mountains as your backdrop or you’re embracing the hustle and bustle of the city, Coal Harbour offers versatility. The best time to shoot here is either in the early morning or late afternoon when the light is softer, and you can avoid the crowds.

Another favorite in the Coal Harbour area. This is where I take couples who are looking for something scenic but also a little more relaxed. The gentle ripples of the water and the picturesque views of the city create such a calm, serene atmosphere for engagement photos. It’s a spot where the city vibe still shines through, but you can enjoy a peaceful moment together away from the hustle. Golden hour here is perfection, with soft light reflecting off the water—it’s one of those moments that feels too good to be true.

Located between Buchanan Tower and other university buildings, Buchanan Courtyard might seem like a typical university space, but it’s surprisingly beautiful for photos. The mix of modern architecture and lush greenery creates a balance of urban style and natural elements. I love how this spot feels more intimate, tucked away from the busy streets of Vancouver. It’s especially stunning in the spring when the flowers are in bloom. If you’re looking for a peaceful yet modern vibe for your engagement photos, this is your spot.
There’s just something so romantic about a photoshoot on the lake. Whether it’s Pitt Lake, Alouette Lake or one of the smaller, hidden lakes around the city, the reflections on the water make the photos feel dreamy and timeless. I especially love when couples come here in the early morning when the water is still and calm—everything looks like a perfect reflection of their love. I also love doing photoshoots near the lake in the fall when the changing colors of the trees create a vibrant palette in the background.

Stanley Park Seawall is iconic for a reason—it’s the perfect spot to capture both nature and the city in one shot. The combination of stunning water views, towering trees, and the Vancouver skyline makes this one of the most versatile engagement photo locations. I absolutely love capturing couples here at sunset, when the light is soft and golden, casting a magical glow over everything. It’s a great location for couples who want an easy-to-access spot with incredible views and that classic Vancouver feel.
This one is for couples who are looking for something a little more edgy and urban. A rooftop parkade offers a completely different vibe, but it’s amazing for creating those urban, cool engagement shots. The views of the city skyline are amazing, and you get this vast, open space that makes the photos feel so dramatic. It’s especially beautiful at sunset when you get that soft golden light mixed with the city lights coming to life. If you’re an adventurous couple who wants something unique, this location is for you.

I know, I know—an underground parkade sounds like an unusual location for engagement photos, but trust me, it works! There’s something so dramatic about the lines, lighting, and shadows in an underground parking garage. It’s a unique place for couples who are open to stepping outside the norm and doing something a little more fun and industrial. It’s also great for rainy days, as it offers shelter while still giving you those gritty, cool vibes for your photos.

Located in West Vancouver, Whytecliff Park is an amazing spot for couples who want to combine ocean views with natural beauty. The rocky cliffs, wide-open spaces, and ocean breeze make it feel like you’ve stepped into another world. The park is especially beautiful in the spring and summer when everything is lush and green. If you’re into nature and want that rugged, beautiful backdrop for your engagement session, this is the spot.
Golden Ears Park in the Lower Mainland is the perfect location for couples who love hiking and being in nature. The spot shown below is about a 20 minute walk from the parking lot. This park offers everything from dense forests to scenic river views. It’s a great location if you’re looking for that calm, peaceful vibe in your photos. Plus, it’s less crowded than some of the more well-known parks, making it ideal for an intimate, relaxed session. The best time to visit is in the spring or fall when the weather is mild, and the landscape is in full bloom.
Mud Bay Park in Surrey is a great option for couples who want to escape into nature without venturing too far from the city. The peaceful walking trails, stunning waterfront views, and natural surroundings make it an ideal location for a more relaxed and intimate photoshoot. It’s especially stunning in the fall, when the weather is mild, and the light is soft and golden.
If you’re a couple who loves the outdoors and has a special connection to country life, Glen Valley Stables in Fraser Valley is a must-visit. The barn, open fields, and horses create a rustic charm that’s perfect for couples looking to capture their love in a country setting. It’s a relaxed and casual location that makes for beautiful, heartfelt photos. Whether you’re a horse lover or just drawn to the country vibe, Glen Valley Stables offers a unique backdrop that’s sure to make your engagement photos stand out.
Vedder River in the Chilliwack, BC is a stunning location for couples who love adventure and nature. The lush greenery, river views, and surrounding trails make it the perfect setting for a rustic, outdoorsy engagement session. I love shooting here because the environment offers so many creative possibilities. Whether you’re into hiking, exploring, or just enjoying the quiet nature, Vedder River gives you a relaxed, beautiful setting for your engagement photos.

Portal Park is seriously one of those spots you might not think of at first, but once you’re there, you’ll fall in love with it! It’s this cool little oasis tucked right in the middle of Vancouver, mixing urban vibes with nature in the best way possible. Picture yourselves walking through these pretty tree-lined paths or under this epic arched walkway, it’s the perfect backdrop for those relaxed yet stunning shots. It’s a mix of clean, modern vibes with that laid-back, earthy feel, making it great for all kinds of couple moments. And the best part? It’s super easy to get to, so you can hit up the park and still have plenty of time for those spontaneous adventures afterward!
Lastly, sometimes the most meaningful photos are the ones taken in the spaces where you feel most at ease—whether that’s at home or in a cozy studio. An at-home or in-studio engagement shoot lets you connect with your partner in a quiet, intimate setting that’s uniquely yours. It’s the perfect location for couples who want to incorporate their personalities and create something truly special. Plus, it’s a great option for those who don’t want to spend the entire day outside or in public spaces.
